| Course Information | ||
The Masters of International Relations is an interdisciplinary coursework masters program which approaches international relations from both a practical and theoretical basis. Core units are supplemented with a variety of options including politics, economics, communications, law, business and anthropology, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests and requirements. The MIR program at Macquarie University incorporates four compulsory units that cover the core traditional international relations focus areas of theory, systems, law and political economy. The program also includes four further options, two of which must be chosen from other Politics Department units covering the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Pacific. The availability of each of these regionally-focused units may vary from year to year.(International students should note that the core units do not include any specific unit on Australia so no previous knowledge of Australian politics, domestic or international is necessary for entry to this Program.) With the approval of the program convenor, students may choose two subjects that have a strong international emphasis from the following disciplines within the University: Law, Economics and Financial Studies, Media and Communications and Anthropology. As subject offerings may change from year to year, students should contact the course administrator to confirm the availability of the various optional units. International Relations (IRPG) units are taught in a three-hour lecture/seminar format during the daytime and early evening (e.g. 6-9 pm) of weekdays (Mon to Fri).
