| Entry Requirements | |||||||
If you have completed at least three 300-level units (12 credit points) and have a grade point average (GPA) in 300-level Politics of 3.0 or better, and a GPA in 300-level Humanities and/or Social Science units at 3.0 or better, you are eligible to enter the Politics Honours program. The Department encourages intending Honours students to do a range of Politics units at all levels, including POL368 Reading Unit in Politics but it does not require this. |

| Program Requirements | |||||||
The program requires students to complete 4,500 word essays in each of two coursework seminars (offered in the first semester of the year), and a 1000 word paper in the 'Scope and Methods' seminar (also offered in the first semester).A thesis of 15,000 words, preceded by a bibliographical essay (parts of which are normally incorporated in the opening chapter of the thesis).Regular attendance at a work in progress workshop is undertaken in the second semester. A joint Honours program (combining, for example, Politics and Sociology) is also possible. To enrol in a joint program, students need to have completed a coherent study in both Departments and have a GPA of at least 3.0 in both. In a joint Honours degree, students do one seminar in each Department and a thesis that is jointly supervised. |

| Application Dates | |||||||
Candidates for the Honours degree in Politics (or for a joint degree) can only enter the program in the first semester.Applications for the following calender year are accepted between 1st August and 31st October with the Division of Humanities. Late applications, for which there may be a late fee, will be considered. | Full-time and Part-time Candidature | |||||||
The Honours degree is available full-time (over one year) for students who are not in the workforce or are only working part-time, but it is also available part-time (two years) for students with full-time jobs or family commitments - work, whether paid or unpaid, that takes up at least 25 hours per week - or who are concurrently enrolled in another degree (eg. BA LLB students). Students may switch their status from full-time to part-time (and must switch from part-time to full-time) if their circumstances change. |

| Withdrawal | |||||||
| Students may withdraw at any stage without penalty. | |||||||
| Deferrals | |||||||
| Students who are offered a place can defer for a year, but once they have started their Honours program they cannot break it without losing credit for the work they have completed. |
